After a bit of thought we have decided to do something very different and give some reasons why Hostel Revolution
may NOT suit you! We would like our guests to be happy and think it is better to state some of the
things that people might not like about HR, after all not everyone is looking for the same thing in a hostel!
1. We within the Historical Centre of Quito (on the northern edge) where all the attractions are, we are NOT in La Mariscal
(Gringo Land)!! While we have access to internet cafes, phone cabins, laundry, supermarket, chemist and restaurants
(all 1 block away), Gringo Land has the nightlife and travel agencies. The old town is quiet at night (with the exception
of the best kept secret La Ronda street!) So if you want international fast food restaurants & bars/discos close you might
want to stay in gringoland! But keep in mind gringoland is only 5-10 mins away by bus, 25 minute walk, or taxi is cheap!
2. We have some traffic and street noise mainly in the morning. Most people it doesn´t bother, but light sleepers may
want to bring earplugs.
3. We do not provide breakfast and meals. We prefer that people support our local businesses and restaurants.
There are many restaurants offering decent sized breakfast and lunch from only $1.25, and we have a great
kitchen with all the facilities to cook so you can buy fresh rolls, fruit or eggs from the store down the road.
Some hostels have free breakfasts (built into the price) but often people would rather choose what they like,
and not have to be present during breakfast hours.
4. Some people think the old town is unsafer than the Mariscal. This is a myth. Police records show that crime
is higher in the New Town! Mariscal at night is one of the worst places for crime. People need to be careful in all
areas, however and we recommend taxis after 10pm.
6. We are a small hostel with capacity for maximum 18 people. When we are busy it can be quite rowdy and fun
but also very quiet when there are less people. It is not a large 24 hr party hostel but being a small hostel people
find it is more personal and friendly. It is also directly managed by the owners who live on premises.
7. We are not the type of hostel that haves nightly theme parties etc. There are some larger hostels that have constant
activities and partying where guests tend to just stay in the hostel and not experience the local culture! But here it
is the historical center of Quito which is the attraction here, we are essentially a place to sleep.
So if your thing is to stay in modern ´gringo land´ (La Mariscal), or want a more of a party hostel, no problem
we can recommend another hostel that might be great for you!
The philosophy of Hostel Revolution is to provide a chilled relaxing environment with great friendly service, to backpackers
of all ages who want to stay in comfortable budget accomodation in the Historical part of Quito so they can explore all the
attractions. It has been created by backpackers who have travelled in South America based on what we want in a hostel.
If this sounds like you hope to see you soon!
