Quito is 2,850 m (about
9,350 ft) above sea level and attracts athletes for high altitude
training, studies have shown training at altitude can help improve
endurance, speed, strength and recovery. For example each year world
renowned Cuban national boxers come and train at la Tola boxing
gymnasium (not far from the Hostel) as a lead up to major boxing
tournaments such as the Olympics.* 10 minute walk up the hill from Hostel Revolution is Itchimbia Park, it has ample space and running and cycling tracks perfect for Athletes of all sports to improve their fitness. Also great for mountain climbers wishing to aclimatize before tackling one of Ecuadors many world class peaks. We also have free weights and a spinning bike at the hostel, and a fully equipped kitchen so you can buy fresh food from the local market and prepare it to your own specification. Be warned though, because of the high elevation it is not recomended to do any heavy physical exercise on the first few days, a few people find they are short of breath, have headaches and need to rest after arriving. HR is an Athlete friendly Hostel!
